Let’s be honest, the bombshell women that are shown on the Carl’s Jr. adds aren’t really the women who eat that kind of glorious fast food. Heidi Klum? Samantha Hoopes? And let’s get real, certainly not Kim Kardashian. In fact, Carl’s Jr. CEO Andy Pudzer said, “Kim really couldn’t eat the burger.” According to Grub Street, in an interview promoting the new hot-dog burger, Pudzer said this:

We used Kim Kardashian in an ad. But Kim really couldn’t eat the burgers. Luckily, we had a salad we were promoting, so we used Kim in the salad ad. But if we had not been promoting a salad, we probably never would’ve done an ad with Kim, because she wasn’t good at eating the burger.

Sessanta to Bring Sicilian 'Street Food' to Sixty Soho Hotel

Street food is making a comeback in a gourmet way, and finally a restaurant will open downtown representing Sicilian ’70s style street food. Sessanta will open in the Sixty Soho hotel where chef Jordon Frosolone will offer items like beef tongue sliders and fritto misto, as well as a whole section of crudos. There will also be a handful of seafood-based pastas like fennel tortellini with sardines, pine nuts, golden raisins, and saffron. Check out the menu here.

Tell the folks over at Boxed Water that canned water is better. At least when it’s coming from Anheuser-Busch to help flood victims it is. According to Grub Street, Wednesday night Anheuser-Busch quit bottling beer at its Georgia brewery so it could produce emergency drinking water. They ended up producing  2,000 24-packs of water, which is en route now, via the Red Cross to flood victims in Texas and Oklahoma.

Things at Bruno, the up and coming East Village pizza spot, are a bit delayed but coming along. The spot pizzeria/tasting menu project is the brainchild of designer Demian Repucci and former Box Kite boys Justin Slojkowski and Dave Gulino. According to Eater, they’re ready to mill their own flour with a fancy new mill they paid $30,000 for through Kickstarter, and the team has started hiring staff and hooked up its phone system. The team is also getting crafty with things by literally building chairs by hand.

If you’re looking for a wine that pairs wonderfully with your summer seafood dishes cava is your answer. Eric Asimov for the Times explains that, “cava is one of the few sparkling wines that by law must be made using the same method as Champagne. That means that the cava grapes are first fermented into a still wine, and then a second fermentation is induced in the bottle, which creates the sparkle.”

Some dishes he highly recommends pairing with cava is jamón Ibérico or any ham, shrimp and garlic sauce, grilled sardines and other light seafood or fried dishes.
