You guys. YOU GUYS. There is so much to do this weekend I almost cannot. *ALMOST* cannot. But I will. For you. For all of us. It’s Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival, the Brooklyn Book Festival continues, there’s a cat-themed dance party, a show full of Empire Records (GIF theme, duh!) soundtrack covers and SO MUCH MORE! Before we get into all of it, let’s talk about what you may have missed on BYT this week if you were being a disloyal reader …

Welcome back to another weekend, you guys! And it’s not just ANY weekend, either; it’s the US OPEN FINALS! I went to the quarter-finals yesterday and it was pretty much the best day of my life, so if you have the means to grab a ticket and go to either the semi-finals or the actual finals, you should PROBABLY DO IT! It’s also #NYFW, meaning this week’s GIF theme is (as with all NYFWs) Anna Wintour. SORRY NOT SORRY. If you’re going “But Megan, I hate tennis! I hate fashion!” then CALM DOWN because there are plenty of things to …

Great News! The Great British Bake-Off Is Still Real Good!

Source: Brightest Young Things NYC

I’ve been an outspoken advocate for the Great British Bake-Off (or as some of you from Netflix will know it, Great British Baking Show) for quite some time now, and have watched every season with help from janky YouTube uploads and generally laborious Internet hacking. And, like many people, I was deeply, deeply hurt and offended when the band broke up due to a network shift; judge Mary Berry and hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc pledged their allegiance to the BBC, while Paul Hollywood, the Simon Cowell of baking competitions, decided he was cool with taking the show …

Happy Labor Day Weekend! I hope you’re getting the fuck outta dodge, and/or holing up at many boozy BBQs, but if not, you’ve got plenty of things to look forward to the next couple of days! I’m also going to treat this as though you are like me, and holiday weekends mean next to nothing; I’ll be posting your Hit List on Monday as usual, so if you’re looking for stuff to do then (because you did not get the fuck outta dodge and/or are unfortunately not invited to a boozy BBQ) just check back at 11am on Monday. So …

Somewhere along the way in our history as humans, we discovered the ability to season our food. It came slowly at first, as most things do with our species, likely occurring by accident, and almost certainly taking place over several generations. We probably started with combining one kind of fruit with another, or maybe wrapping meat in a certain kind of leaf to impart a flavor into the flesh. It wasn’t long after that someone discovered the bright green, yellow, red, or purple things growing off a skinny vine makes a tongue feel like it’s on fire. Spicy food has been with us for awhile.

Check Out Dripkit’s Kickstarter Campaign!

If I had a dollar for every time I shelled out for an overpriced cup of pour over coffee, I’d be slightly less impoverished than I am due to the aforementioned times I have shelled out for an overpriced cup of pour over coffee. That’s why it’s P. TIGHT that Dripkit has come along! Dripkit (an Ilana Kruger and Kara Cohen enterprise) is a Brooklyn-based startup that hopes to bring us all portable, pocket-sized pour over coffee technology so that maybe, JUST MAYBE, we will not have to constantly settle for hitting up bougie cafes on the go. All it …

Wow, welcome to the weekend (already!) and stuff! I assume that you are still suffering from a patriotic hangover, so I accept that maybe you just want to hang out on your couch in front of the AC watching Netflix and eating ice cream, but in the event you want to emerge from ye olde summer cave, there’s a LOT happening the next few days // from shows to street parties to a screening of A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, things are lookin’ SOCIALLY S-O-L-I-D! Hi! I don’t really feel like writing this right now, which I guess I probably shouldn’t tell you, but I have had a harrowing week of spotty WiFi and now that it’s functioning properly I basically just want to be watching brain-melting YouTube videos! Also, my pinky finger is bruised dot com from a Pride DIY gone awry (get your mind out of the gutter // I hammered it while trying to build a makeshift cabana on a Crown Heights rooftop because everyone at the party was dying dot com) and it hurts to type without looking bougie AF, so …

RECAP: &pizza’s Opening Day in NYC ft. Free Pizza, Free Tattoos

Source: Brightest Young Things NYC

I can’t think of too many better ways to spend a Tuesday than eating pizza, so it was pretty rad that I got to check out &pizza’s big opening day in NYC this week! The first 212 customers received free pizzas, and the first 22 people who wanted to snag a free ampersand tattoo will get free pizza for a WHOLE YEAR! Naturally I wanted to scope the spectacle, so I bounced back and forth between the party (complete with balloons and a DJ) at 15 W. 28th Street and First Class Tattoos, where the 22 lucky candidates were transported …

PREVIEW: &pizza Opening 6.20 at 15 W. 28th Street

Source: Brightest Young Things NYC

We’re longtime fans of &pizza (the chain, the brand, the legend) over here at BYT, but since I’m based in Brooklyn, I rarely get to eat it unless I’m down in DC for meetings. That’s not to say we’re exactly short on ‘zza options in NYC, but &pizza has that little extra bit of je ne sais quoi (or however you say that in Italian // 2 LAZY 2 GOOGLE); from its distinctive oblong pies topped with ultra-fresh, ultra-delicious ingredients to its ampersand-tattooed “Tribe” of employees to its local charity work, this is as close to pizza as a lifestyle …

We’re officially in Josh Pond Ice Cream Week here in NYC, meaning a selection of ice cream shops around the city will be offering special, limited-edition flavors made with Josh Pond wild Maine blueberries! You’ve only got a short window to try ’em all (now thru Sunday 6.18), so prepare to throw on a pair of shorts with an elastic waistband and GET SAMPLING! I hit up Morgenstern’s yesterday to taste the two Josh Pond flavors they’ve got on tap. Now, there are two types of ice cream in this world: 1. the kind that you grab on the go …

WELCOME TO THE WEEKEND! I will be babysitting a puppy (follow her on IG at @poseypupbk) and watching the French Open the entire time, but if I had less of a responsibility to animals or sports, I would most certainly hit up any/all of the below INCLUDING but not limited to Brooklyn Pride programming, Northside Festival and a screening of the OG Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie! Before we get into all of that, here’s some important stuff you may have missed on BYT this week:

We did it! We (almost) survived a very short work week! And there’s a lot of stuff going on the next few days to get excited about, like the fact that I anticipate a solid percentage of disagreeable people being away at Gov Ball! If you’re going, “But I’M going to Gov Ball, Megan!” Then 1. why are you even reading this?! YOU HAVE PLANS ALREADY! and 2. maybe YOU’RE not disagreeable, but there is a certain kind of person that festivals of this nature tend to attract, and if you don’t know who I’m talking about, I am sure …
